We got a wood burning stove insert for our
fireplace
about a month ago. When the glass door is closed, no smoke enters the room. Well, today, smoke started pouring out of the blower and below the stove, and filling the room!! What would be causing this? It was very scary. It is windy outside… does that have anything to do it? How am I supposed to get a fire going in the wind?

Unfortunately, I have a wood burning
fireplace
in my living room instead of a traditional fireplace. I like the look of the fireplace itself, but there is stone all on the wall behind it which limits what I can do color wise with the room. (I prefer color - not beige, which is all I can really use) There is also the stone encircling the fireplace on the floor.
Can I put some kind of drywall or plaster to cover up the stone, and still be able to use the fireplace safely? I would like a clean, solid look.

I am looking at homes to buy and I want a
fireplace
. I am not familiar with a gas log fireplace but fairly familiar with a wood burning fireplace. What is the difference between the two different fireplaces? Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages between the two? I don’t have tons of money to pay on gas logs. Are they expensive? How do they work?
Thanks in advance for anything you can share with me about fireplaces and helping me make a very important and potentially costly decision.

I am buying a house that doesn’t have a
fireplace
. In the future I would like to install one. I am currently figuring up my 5 year plan for the property and want to know about how much the addition of a wood burning masonry fireplace costs. I am aware that this is not the most efficient fireplace available, but this is what I am going to choose based strictly on my preference.
I have searched the internet and have found many articles debating different types of fireplaces, estimated resale value, etc. but nothing with a ball park dollar amount. If anybody has added a fireplace to their house or is a contractor who has worked on similar jobs, I would greatly appreciate an approximate figure.
Thanks!
Once again. I am aware that this might not be the most efficent or cost saving. The question is not what kind to build, but how much $$ am I looking at. This is what I am going to build. I just need dollar amounts.
