Had it installed when the wood burning stove was installed. I think it doubles the heat blown into the room for great efficiency. The furnace man recommended it and said he had installed many and uses one himself. No problems whatsoever. I use hard wood only and it burn clean. The thermostat control is very effective.
Love it!

This puts out a huge amount of heat and we don't even run the central system when this is running, even when near zero outside.
It saves $100s a year in gas bills.

Dangerous device

Reviewer: HVAC Installer,
This is a dangerous device that cools flue gases - and can cool them beyond design limits! They can cause build up in the chimney and deteriorate masonry. The savings do not outweigh the long-term detriment.
This is a disaster waiting to happen

It seems odd that there are no negative reviews for this device. We have a neighbor that put it on their stove and it seemed great at first. Then after a month they noticed black tarry goo dripping from it. They kept trying to wipe it up, but it kept getting worse, eventually really messing up their new pipes and stove top. Then around 2 months their stove stopped drafting and he asked me about it. We found the Magic Heat was plugged solid with creosote and is almost impossible to clean.

However, they're lucky. The chimney sweep told them some disaster stories with these devices. He said they cool down the flue gases to the point where the creosote condenses everywhere. If this creosote catches fire, it is almost impossible to put out. Fortunately that didn't happen to them, but they're are glad they asked him to come out and check the chimney. Sure enough, the chimney was full of creosote. Maybe this is an ok device for an old stove that has a very hot flue, but not on a modern wood stove that extracts more heat from the fire and has a cooler flue. For some, it's a huge waste of money.
