Chimney with gas and wood stove?

Can you vent a wood stove and a gas furnace through a line masonry chimney? The house we purchased has a wood stove in the basement hooked to the masonry chimney and there is another thimble that the gas appliance is hooked to. Is this ok?

Yes. There shouldn’t be a problem with it on the technical front. CHeck with your building inspectors though.

This is a BIG NO NO. Each must have their own Chimney. You can not mix. Sorry

I built my house 13 years ago. I have a wood stove, and my central heat vent go out of the same chimney ( sort of ).

You do have to have them separated. I have 1 stone/masonry chimney but it has 2 different flue tile vents within it. If your saying that your wood stove vent and gas vent are the one in the same that is a major mistake and it will not pass any building code.

The gas vent pipe has to be totally sealed and cannot be shared with any other appliances.

    Hope this Helps :)
